In the fashion industry, with a few clicks on a keyboard, fashion designers can immediately “appropriate” historical and cultural influences from across the globe and ages into their next collection.
I have chosen to visually draw parallels between the fashion industry and collage art. With a collage, different images are taken out of their original context and, because of their new surroundings, acquire a new visual meaning. In this way, spontaneous combinations bring about unexpected and new results, challenging the way we traditionally look at familiar symbols.
