Édition 2004
July 8 — September 19
Nothing could be more certain: 2004 is going to be a vintage year for the Rencontres d'Arles and a great thirty-fifth anniversary for a festival founded by Lucien Clergue, Michel Tournier and Jean-Maurice Rouquette in the wake of May 1968. Lucien Clergue is now seventy — twice the age of the Rencontres — and to celebrate François Hébel had the excellent idea of asking another photographer, Martin Parr, to step in as artistic director, while making it clear to Lucien that there would be no change in the proven Rencontres policy of coming up with young talents from all over the world and fresh approaches to often unappreciated classics.
