Sam Stourdzé focuses on contemporary photography and the relationships between art, photography and film. He has curated many exhibitions and written several reference works. In 2007 he was a resident in the cinema section at the French Academy in Rome-Villa Medici. Mr. Stourdzé was director of the Musée de l'Élysée in Lausanne, Switzerland from 2010 to 2014 and editor-in-chief at the photography magazine ELSE before heading the Rencontres d'Arles from 2014 to 2020, when he was appointed director of the French Academy in Rome-Villa Medici. His project focuses on the idea of artistic, social and European mobility.
