Antoine d’Agata left France in 1983 for about 10 years. While staying in New York in 1990, his interest in photography prompted him to enrol at the International Center of Photography, where he attended classes taught by Larry Clark and Nan Goldin. In 1998, his first two books were published: De Mala Muerte and De Mala Noche. From 1999 to 2004 he was represented by the VU’ gallery. in 2001, he published Hometown and received the Niepce Award. In September 2003, his exhibition 1001 Nuits opened in Paris, accompanied by the publication of two books, Vortex and Insomnia. The following year, he joined Magnum Photos and published his fifth book, Stigma. Still in 2004, he shot his first short film, Le Ventre du monde. The year after, Manifeste  was published. In 2006, the photographer shot his first fiction, Aka Ana, in Tokyo. Without a base since 2005, Antoine D’Agata lives and works all over the world. In 2008 he showed his work at the French Cultural Centre in Phnom Penh; the Rat Hole Gallery in Tokyo; the Photographers’ Gallery in London; the Fotomuseum Winterthur in Switzerland; and in Spain, among other places.
