Louise Lawler
The Lambert Collection
American artist Louise Lawler is internationally known for her photographs of art works in their exhibition context. She holds a central place in the history of Yvon Lambert's gallery and the Avignon museum that houses his collection. For the first time in its history, the Lambert Collection is exhibiting all 21 photographs and six installations in the permanent collection held in the Papal City.
The unique show begins with some of Ms. Lawler’s earliest photographs from the early 1980s, continues with a series of glass etchings displayed on shelves and ends with a group of photographs taken in the Lambert Collection’s exhibition spaces and the collector's house when the artist was stranded in France after the World Trade Center attacks.
Mixing the political with the personal, Louise Lawler shows how different exhibition or installation contexts influence how we understand the works.
