Collectors offer new readings of photographs by making thematic choices or artificial connections between works. Can this sometimes betray the photographer’s intention? Purchasing committees create public collections, whereas private collectors usually work alone. Do these two approaches have the same value? Can a museum accommodate a collector’s ‘temperament’ and integrate his collection? With the collectors Claude Hudelot, W. M.
