Matéo Maximoff
I have never photographed a funeral
I have never photographed a funeral offers an immersion into the visual archives of roma writer Matéo Maximoff. Born in 1917 from a manouche mother and a roma kalderash father, he draws the material for his books from romani mythology and family stories. However, this story is also written through photography. From the 50s onwards, Matéo Maximoff set himself a very simple goal: document the life of the romani worlds to which he belongs. Over the years, he manages to shape a unique visual story, halfway between intimacy and ethnography.
