Mécanique générale

The Parc des Ateliers is the site of the French national railway’s former workshops in Arles. Closed in 1984, they now house Luma Arles.

The park’s centerpiece is the tower designed by Frank Gehry to accommodate exhibition and presentation spaces, archives, a library, offices, seminar rooms and a café-restaurant.

The site’s disaffected buildings host presentations, installations, exhibitions, artists’ residences and studios.
Annabelle Selldorf rehabilitated five of them.
Les Forges: exhibition spaces
La Cour des Forges
La Mécanique Général: exhibition spaces and a workshop occupied by Atelier Luma
La Formation: a performing artists’ residence
Le Médico-Social: a guest house and artists’ residence
The Grande Halle, a historic building renovated by the Provence-Alps-Côte d’Azur Region in 2007, houses exhibition spaces.

The complex is located in a park designed by Bas Smets including a pond and over 500 trees.
