RESTROSPECTIVE SARAH MOON

Tales are revealers of truth: metaphor and dream are indirect ways of voicing our fears and the interweaving of desire and the forbidden. This is the enigmatically archetypal atmosphere that pervades the photographs of Sarah Moon: just perceptible beneath the beauty of the images lie disquiet and uncertainty. Following her adaptations of Little Red Riding Hood and The Little Matchgirl, Sarah Moon continues her explorations with L’Effraie ("The Barn Owl"), a short film based on Andersen's tale of the little tin soldier. The film is accompanied by photographs taking the bird theme further and looking into other topics as well. Since the beginning of her career Sarah Moon has focused on the ephemerality of beauty and the fragility of our illusions. Her delicately inventive style has marked some of the most innovative advertising campaigns of recent years, as well as the covers and content of the top illustrated magazines. Winner of the Grand Prix National de la Photographie, she has now added cinema to her highly varied œuvre.
