Jean-Marc LACABE
Independant, Independent curator, France
4 Afternoon
In the 1970s, Jean-Marc Lacabe started promoting photography by presenting exhibitions at his city’s cultural center. In Bordeaux, he founded the ARPA, which held exhibitions and did mediation work between 1978 and 2000.
He organized several festivals and was director of the Château d’Eau of Toulouse from 2001 to 2019. Mr. Lacabe was also curator or co-curator of exhibitions at PhotoEspaña, the Moscow Photography Biennial and museums in Slovakia and Lithuania.
He considers his work an address to the public and believes he must help each individual to form his or her own opinion. For this reason, he alternates the presentation of works by recognized photographers with those of emerging artists. His interest in new work led him to present the first exhibitions of now-famous artists.
