Christian LACROIX
Born 1951, Arles, France. Lives and works in Paris, France.
After an education in the classics and art history, Christian Lacroix was wafted by pure chance into fashion and costume design. He refined his craft with Hermès, Guy Paulin, and in Japan, then, in 1982, was named artistic director of the Maison Jean Patou. In 1987
he opened his own couture house. Indulging a parallel passion, he designed costumes for a multitude of plays, operas, and ballets. He has also been involved since 2000 in more industrial design (TGV, hotels, cinemas) and the scenography of his own work (particularly
the Musée Réattu, 2008, and the Abbaye de Montmajour, 2013). After bidding farewell to couture in 2009, he has made scenography his principal activity. Christian Lacroix was guest artistic director of the 2008 Rencontres d’Arles.
