Safia Belmenouar

Born 1981, Paris, France. Lives and works in Paris, France.

Safia Belmenouar trained as a historian. Her interest in colonial photography led her to illuminate the history of specific countries—Algeria, Cuba—through their iconographic representations. She is the author of Bons baisers des colonies (2007) and, among other academic publications, has participated in such collective works as L’Algérie oubliée (2004) and Rêves Mauresques (2007). Holding a degree in Exhibition Management, she has pursued her work at Magnum and the Rencontres d’Arles where she is in charge of the production of half of the exhibitions. Co-founder of the Galerie Miniature, she has curated Et si demain and See You Soon (Paris, Berlin, 2010-2011), among other exhibitions.
