Marcos Lopez

Born in 1958 in Santa Fe, Argentina. Lives and works in Buenos Aires.

Marcos López began taking photos in 1978 and in 1982 received a study grant from the National Art Collection in Buenos Aires, where he went to live. in 1984 he helped found the Núcleo de Autores Fotográficos group. In 1989 he was a member of the first group of foreign scholarship holders to enter the International School of Cinema and Television in San Antonio de los Baños in Cuba, where he began making 16mm and video documentaries. The year 1993 saw the publication of Retratos (Portraits), his first book of black and white photographs. He then began experimenting with colour via the series Pop Latino (2000) and Sub-realismo Criollo (2003). Among his recent exhibitions: Fotoseptiembre 2009, with Presencia Flagrante at the Image Center in Mexico City. and the itinerant retrospective ‘Vuelo de cabotaje’, currently travelling through Argentina. His photos are now part of the collections at the Museum of Latin-American Art in Buenos Aires (MALBA), the Reina Sofia Museum (MNCARS) in Madrid, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Castile and León (Spain) and the Daros-Latinamerica Foundation in Zurich.
