Vik Muniz

Born 1961, São Paulo, Brazil. Lives and works in New York, USA and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Vik has a comprehensive retrospective in 2014 at the Tel Aviv Art Museum. Other exhibitions include Collection Lambert, Avignon; MAM, São Paulo; the Whitney Museum of American Art and MoMA, New York. Vik is also involved in educational projects in Brazil and the US. His documentary Waste Land (2010) was nominated for the Oscars, won the Sundance Audience Award for Best Film, and was shown at the Théâtre Antique in Arles in 2010. In 2011 Unesco nominated him Good Will Ambassador and in 2013 he received the Crystal Award from the World Economic Forum. Vik is a member of the Network of Global Agenda Council. He was commissioned to do the 72nd Street and 2nd Avenue. subway station in New York, opening in 2016.
