Edwin Sánchez

Born 1976, Bogotá, Colombia. Lives and works in Bogotá.
Edwin Sánchez is an industrial designer and artist, with degrees from the Universidad Jorge Tadeo Lozano and the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, with studies in audio-visual and digital media (Pontifical Catholic University, São Paulo, Brazil). He has participated in exhibitions nationally and internationally since 2007, such as Pilot London 3, International archive for artists and curators; New Museum of Contemporary Art, NYC; and ICI - Independent Curators International’s Project 35. He was the 2011 Winner of the New Proposals Cycle at the Alliance Française, Bogotá. Using a variety of mediums —drawing, installation, video and photography— his works examine current events, the documentary, art and the city, directly exploring the dynamics of illegal trade in the urban context. Beyond generating ethical and moral questions, his work proposes to think of the illegal as a space of meaning that stresses, and in some cases determines, the daily environment.
