Sergiy Lebedynskyy was born in 1982 in Kharkiv, Ukraine. He lives and works in Wolfsburg, Germany, and Kharkiv, Ukraine.
Vadym Trykoz was born in 1984 in Kharkiv, Ukraine. He lives in Waidhofen an der Ybbs, Austria.
In 2010 sergiy Lebedynskyy, Vlad Krasnoshchok, and Vadym Trykoz began their collaborative work as the photographic group Shilo. ‘Shilo’ means awl, expressing the group’s intention to pierce the old, played‐out, and constrained Ukrainian photographic environment. They continue the path‐breaking of the Kharkiv School of Photography (Boris Mikhailov, Evgeny Pavlov, Sergey Bratkov, etc.), known for its bold and critical view of social processes in the former USSR.
Krzysztof Candrowicz presented Anna Orlowska and SHILO Group at The Discouvery Award at the Rencontres d’Arles 2015.
