Born in 1956 in Tokyo, (Japan).

Works and lives in Tokyo.


In 1976-1986 he was editor in chief of Popeye and Brutus, magazines covering the art, architecture and design scene, then going on to edit, in 1989-1992, the hundred and two volumes of the ArT RANDOM series on the art of the 80s.

In the early 90s he began taking photographs and received the 1996 Ihei Kimura photography prize for Roadside Japan. In 2001 came Universe for Rent, an 850-page indepth look at housing in Japan. Chikuma Shobo Publishing has released Roadside Europe (2004), followed in 2005 by Roadside America. His individual exhibitions include Happy Victims (Festival International de Mode et de Photographie at Hyères, France in 2002; The Photographers’ Gallery, London and MUDAM Luxembourg in 2003-2004) and Image-clubs at the White Cube Gallery, London, 2003.


Kyoichi Tsuzuki presented his work at the Rencontres d’Arles in 2005, nominated by Michel Mallard for the No Limit Award: Roadside World at the Magasin Electrique.
