Dominique ISSERMANN

Born in 1947 in Paris, where she lives and works.

In the early 1970s, Dominique Issermann produced a series of text-and-photo reports for Zoom magazine, on the shooting of films such as Fellini’s Casanova and Novecento by Bertolucci, and quickly became known as a photographer of A-list personalities. The following year she came across fashion photography, through a competition in which she won first prize. Courtesy of her winning shot, she shifted her focus to fashion.

Sonia Rykiel was the first industry figure to hire Issermann for advertising campaigns; the partnership lasted 10 years. The photographer went on to work for Christian Dior, Nina Ricci, Yves Saint Laurent, Montana, Guess, Lancôme, La Perla, , Tiffany, Cartier, Victoria’s Secret, Hermès, Chanel...
She works with many international publications such as Vogue, Elle, Cosmopolitan US and New York Magazine, as well as the most prestigious fashion supplements – in the New York Times, the Corriera della Sera and Le Monde.

In parallel to her career as a photographer, she has directed a host of music clips – including Dance Me and Manhattan for Leonard Cohen – and commercials for leading brands of perfume.

In 1987 she published Anne Rohart (Schirmer & Mosel). In 2002, Victoria’s Secret published her work for the brand in Sexy Book. In 2004, a portfolio of her most famous photographs was included in the Reporters sans Frontières annual, prefaced by Philippe Sollers.

Dominique Issermann presented her work at the Rencontres d'Arles in 1987: Retrospective of her work in Fashion, publicity and portraits at St Jean de Moustier and in 2006: Postcards at the église des Frères-Prêcheurs.
