Jennifer ALLORA

Born in 1974 in Philadelphia (USA).


Jennifer Allora and Guillermo Calzadilla have been working together since 1995. They live and work in Puerto Rico. Frequently mining the spaces between sculpture, performance, video, architecture, and social/public intervention, their inventive use of materials and strong sense of the aesthetic and social, encompass art historical references and create a new artistic vocabulary within a psychological, political and social context.

Allora & Calzadilla’s work has been recently included in group shows such as Day for Night: 2006 Whitney Biennal (New York, US, 2006); 51st International Art Exhibition: Venice Biennale (Venice, Italy, 2005); Common Wealth, Tate Modern (London, UK, 2003); How Latitudes Become Forms: Art in a Global Age, the Walker Art Center (Minneapolis, US, 2003); Ailleurs, ici, Musée d’ Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris / Arc au Couvent des Cordeliers (Paris, France, 2004).

Somme of their last exhibitions: Palais de Tokyo (Paris, France, 2006), S.M.A.K. Stedelijk Museum voor Actuele Kunst (Ghent, Belgium, 2006), Dallas Museum of Art (Dallas, US, 2006), Walker Arts Center (Minneapolis, US, 2004), Renaissance Society (Chicago, US, 2007), National Museum of Art, Oslo (2009) and at the 2011 Venice Biennale where they represented the USA.
