Carla SOZZANI

Born in 1947 in Mantua, Italy.
She was editor for various fashion magazines from 1968 to 1976 and then became editor in chief of all special issues of Italian Vogue (1976-1986). In 1987, she launches Italian Elle as editor in chief and founds one year later her own publishing company: Carla Sozzani Editore s.r.l. In 1990, she opens Galleria Carla Sozzani, a gallery dedicated to photography and design exhibitions located in an old Milanese building and the bookstore of the gallery.
It is now over 17 years that Galleria Carla Sozzani has established itself as one of the most important photography galleries in Italy. Since 1990, the gallery presented over 180 exhibitions and many famous photographers attended the openings, often featuring works that had never been shown in Italy before. Amongst them: Helmut Newton, Annie Leibovitz, Bruce Weber, Bert Stern, Sarah Moon, Paolo Roversi, David Bailey, Don McCullin, Hiro, David LaChapelle.
Twice a year the gallery organizes exhibitions related to architecture, fashion and design. Amongst them: Franco Albini, Carlo Mollino, A.G. Franzoni, Verner Panton, Jean Prouvé, Serge Mouille, Yayoi Kusama, Pierre Cardin, Courrèges, Paco Rabanne.
Next to the gallery the bookstore presents a large selection of titles on art, architecture, photography and design. 10 Corso Como, a store that blends art, design and fashion from all over the world was created in 1991 and a café restaurant opens few years later (1998). In 2002 starts a joint-venture with designer Rei Kawakubo, opening in Tokyo a co-branding store called 10 Corso Como/ Comme des Garçons. The 10 Corso Como complex (gallery, bookstore, store and café restaurant) is completed in 2003 with Three Rooms, a small and exclusive hotel. In 2008 starts a joint-venture with Samsung Group, opening in Seoul a 10 Corso Como that includes a fashion and design store, a gallery, a bookshop and a restaurant.
