Franck GERARD

Born in 1972 in Poitiers.

Lives and works in Nantes.

Aged 18, he entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Nantes, where he majored in photography. After graduating, he was invited by Dominique Truco to stage his first exhibition at Le Confort Moderne in Poitiers. On 13 July 1999, after a violent accident, he decided to make photography his livelihood and placed humankind at the centre of his work. In 2000, he had a residency at La Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, in the fourth arrondissement.

From 2001 to 2003, he divided his time between the Paris neighbourhood of Belleville and the Île de Vassivière, where he worked on a public commission from the Centre National des Arts Plastiques, in collaboration with the Vassivière art and landscape centre in Limousin, then headed by Guy Tortosa. He explored the political and economic impact on the landscape of human activity. The show was held in 2003. After several further shows and the acquisition of pieces of his work by art libraries, at a 2005 biennial of contemporary art entitled “Romanes”, in Melle, Deux-Sêvres, he showed Économie de marché, a piece of in situ work.

His interest in painting has recently prompted him to explore the theme of the Vanities, and Éric Corne has enlisted him to photograph the Parc de La Villette, the venue in May this year for the exhibition Envoyer/promener, les limites du regard.

Gérard Franck presented his work at the Rencontres d'Arles in 2006: As Is at the Atelier des Forges. He also took part in the collective exhibition France 14 at the abbaye de Montmajour.
