Philippe LOPPARELLI
Born in 1963 in Metz, France.
Lives and works in Paris.
Philippe Lopparelli graduated in fine arts in 1989, and the following year his first piece of reportage, Paysages Ephémères ("Ephemeral Landscapes"), about the break-up of the steel industry in his native region of Lorraine, was published in the press.
He began collaborating with numerous magazines such as Géo, Télérama, DS… In 1996, a two-year project on traditional circuses in France culminated in Quel Cirque ? (Éditions Marval), in which his pictures were accompanied by short stories by Marie-Pierre Losfeld. In the same year he joined the photographers' collective Tendance Floue, and began working on the notion of islands as dreamlike spaces after a second journey to the Austral Islands and French Antarctic Islands and to Iceland. In parallel, he has continued his project Electrotopia on the electronic-music generation in Europe.
His output has received several awards including: the City of Montpellier Prix Leica (1991), the Fondation Hachette Grant (1993), and the City of Paris Grant (1996).
Philippe Lopparelli presented his work at the Rencontres d’Arles in 2011: Tendance Floue, Getting down to it at the Magasin Electrique (collective exhibition); in 2005: Electrotopia at the église Saint-Blaise and in 2004: Collectif Tendance Floue / Magazine Géo at the église de Barcarin.
