Christophe BERTHOUD

Born in 1965 in Choisy-le-Roi (France).

Lives and works in Marseille.


Christophe Berthoud, a historian of photography who graduated from ENSP in 1992, has collaborated on numerous monographs, including Roger Parry, le météore fabuleux (The Fabulous Meteor, Marval, 1996), Raymond Voinquel – Les acteurs du rêve (Actors of the dream, Seuil / Éditions du patrimoine, 1997), and Jean Marquis (CRP, 2001). In 2007 he publishes the essay "Banality, another of photography's achievements" as part of the book Roger Parry – photographs, drawings, page designs (Gallimard/Jeu de Paume). He takes part in launching the magazine Infra-mince (ENSP/Actes Sud), of which he is managing editor until 2006. He has published other essays on contemporary photography, worked as editor on a collections catalogue for the Museum of contemporary art of Marseille, and participated in interviews with Alain Desvergnes, founder and first director of ENSP, for the book Paysages portraits – Portraits paysages (Landscape portraits – portrait landscapes), Diaphane Editions, 2010). His essay on Bernard Plossu's "photogrammes" will be published in June, 2012 by Yellow Now : 8 / Super 8.  
Christophe Berthoud was curator of the exhibition Alinari, A past conjugated with the present at the Rencontres d'Arles 2012.
