HALIL

Born in 1957 in Turkey.

Lives and works in Stockholm.



In 1980, after the military coup, Halil has to leave his homeland for political reasons. He has taught photography for years in several schools, including the Nordens Fotoskola. As a photographer, he has been also focused on several projects, mostly about the social situation in Turkey.

His work was exhibited in several European countries and published in 3 books: In a Foreign Country (1998), The Smell of Thinner (1998), T.S (2003). In 2007, he edited A Cloud of Black Smoke, a book built from a collection of photographs of the 68 movement of Turkey. He is currently working on his latest project called I Am Playing Ping-Pong Now, a diary of the last 10 years.


Halil presented his work at the Rencontres d'Arles in 2013, nominated by Diane Dufour for the Discovery Award: A cloud of black smoke at the Atelier de Mécanique.
