The jury voted artist Eva Nielsen and curator Marianne Derrien winners of the new visual arts sponsorship program BMW ART MAKERS #2 for their SpectroGéographies project.

SpectroGéographies was jointly designed especially for the BMW ART MAKERS program. Poetic yet scientific, it mixes images, paintings and architecture to question time through the strata of Camargue’s urban landscape, territory, geology and architecture. 

Digital tools evoke human-induced changes to urban, industrial and natural landscapes. The areas between cities and countryside—abandoned spaces for some, playgrounds or even survival zones for others—are a particular focus.

·  BMW ART MAKERS is the first large-scale program that brings together and backs emerging visual artists and curators.

·  The two start working in January and will be presented at the Rencontres d'Arles in July 2023 and Paris Photo in November 2023.

·  BMW Group France awards the artist a €10,000 grant, the curator an €8,000 grant and both a €15,000 research and production budget.

The jury includes Maryse Bataillard, head of sponsorship at BMW Group France; Paris Photo director Florence Bourgeois; Manifesto president Hervé Digne; Image par l'image founder Chantal Nedjib; Rencontres d'Arles director Christoph Wiesner; Beaux Arts Magazine editorial director Fabrice Bousteau, Fannie Escoulen, head of the French Ministry of Culture’s photography department; and Christophe Ono-dit-Biot, writer and deputy director of Le Point magazine.
