The Rencontres d’Arles invites people working in the cultural, educational and social fields as well as anyone interested in visual education to come together around this year’s theme, “pictures as narrative”.

Almost since the dawn of humanity, pictures have been a fabulous means of expression and communication where the implicit rules of producing, spreading and receiving them, as well as their narrative precepts, change as the palette of creative tools expands. Over time, increasingly complex visual productions have appeared, now appealing to nearly all our senses.
