The Night of the Year is an unmissable event that takes place during the opening week of the Rencontres d’Arles, the world’s first international photography festival.

This year again, the Papeteries Étienne, an abandoned paper mill located in the Trinquetaille neighbourhood, will be brought back to life as it hosts the Night of the Year. During this photographic promenade, visitors can meander from screen to screen and view the projected works of artists and photographers that the festival has discovered or fallen in love with. A selection of institutions is given carte blanche to share their favourites photographic picks. More than 5 000 visitors came to the 2017 edition of this free-access night-time and popular great stroll.

Once again, the Night of the Year begins before the sun sets.
For the fourth edition of BYOPaper – Bring Your Own Paper – the Rencontres d’Arles invite you to participate in the nightlong event and exhibit your photographs on the walls of the Papeteries Etienne!

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS:
- Step 1: Submit before May 31 a project proposal containing a sample of images, a short letter of intent (500 words maximum) and a CV via the form.
- Step 2: Early June, team members from the Rencontres d’Arles and from photography lifestyle magazine Fisheye will meet to look through the submissions and choose their 30 favourite projects.
- Step 3: If selected, you will get the chance to come to the site – with your prints, glue, brush, roller, sponge and cutter in hand – and be assigned five linear meters of wall-space to paste your work. This year, Fisheye Magazine has decided to take BYOPaper beyond the Papeteries Etienne by publishing a portfolio of their favourite projects.

Be creative, be offbeat, be funny!
Space is limited so don’t wait to submit your project. You might get the chance to reawaken the walls of the paper mill all night long with your photographs.
