Matthieu Chedid Meets Martin Parr
The MMM exhibition is the product of a meeting. The meeting of two personalities: a musician with a pronounced visual bent and one of the most important figures in contemporary photography. They meet here in a dialogue sustained by two widely separated and diverse environments. The composer’s ‘homage’ gives rise to a hybrid experience, halfway between sight and sound, a heartfelt mano a mano.
Created especially for this occasion, Matthieu Chedid’s composition consists of nine soundtracks corresponding to the multiple projections distributed throughout the chapels of the église des Frères-Prêcheurs. A ballet of sound and light enlivens a series of environments, whose themes revisit Parr’s iconography: cameras, headdresses, real and imaginary animals. As these microspheres intermingle, they embody a dazzlement of new ways to address the british photographer’s work, offering an astonishing retrospective through an array of more than 500 photographs.
Swirling around the visitors, this scenography, conceived as a wandering, leads them towards a genuine sensory experience which, from small-scale image to wall fresco by way of projections, accompanies the stroll on which this surprising duo invites us to join them. From this unexpected pairing, a four-handed composition is born.
