Kristin Dittrich is director of the Shift School for Contemporary Photography and art critic for Photobook Journal LA. As an independent art critic and coach, she has specialized in contemporary photography for some twenty years. She founded the Photofestival F/STOP in Leipzig, Germany, and the SHIFT School of Photography, which offers a mentoring program for photographers already advanced in their work, focusing on research related to memory, ethics, philosophy, sociology, Zeitgeist and biographical work. Kristin Dittrich studied photography at the Sorbonne in Paris.
She has taught as a guest lecturer at the ENSP, Arles, in the art history department of the University of Leipzig and at the Anzenberger Masterclass, Vienna.
She was a member of the founding team of Paris Photo and worked for the international event DOCUMENTA13. She recently became the owner and curator of Steidl's first photographic book library in Göttingen. This year, Kristin Dittrich is organizing an exhibition during the Venice Biennale, under the pavilion of Chemnitz, European Capital of Culture 2025.
She supports photographers from all over the world through her writing and mentoring. Kristin Dittrich is interested in coherent projects of an artistic, conceptual or documentary nature, whatever their stage of development. All portfolio formats are welcome.
