Maya GODED

Born in 1970 in Mexico City. Lives and works in Mexico City.

Maya Goded began studying photography and sociology in Mexico City in 1985 before leaving for the International Center of Photography in New York. She started working in 1993 as assistant to the photographer Graciela Iturbide. In 2001 she was the recipient of the prestigious W. Eugene Smith Fund Award for her work with prostitutes in Mexico City, Plaza de la Soledad (Loneliness Square). In 2007, her exhibition Let’s all go back to the streets was held at the Casa de América in Madrid, in 2007, and in the same year another exhibition of her work was held at the Museum of Fine Arts in Mexico City. She has exhibited with other artists in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Latin America, Europe and China. Her publications include Nosotras (Editions Filigranes, 2004) and Good Girls (Editions Umbridge, 2006).
