Miguel Angel Rojas
Born in 1946 in Bogota. Lives and works in Colombia.
Rojas is often recognised as a figurative artist, not interested in style as much as in the subject matter. It is on these grounds, where he comes to terms with conceptual, symbolic and political themes such as marginality, sexual difference, indigenous politics, social displacement, and most recently, political violence related to drug trafficking. The work of Miguel Ángel Rojas has been extensively shown and acquired by different institutions, among others: the São Paulo and Havana Biennales; the Museum of Modern Art (New York); the Daros Latinamerica Collection (Zurich); the Ludwig Museum (Cologne); the Whitney Museum of American Art (New York); the CaixaForum (Barcelona).
