The exhibition title derives from German theologian Sebastian Brant’s literary work “Ship of Fools”, published in 1494. The book depicts a wandering vessel with 111 “fools,” each character symbolizing a category of social problem.

Since 2014, Liu Yu has been in close communication with one such group banished to the fringes of society: those who have experienced forced or voluntary homelessness. After deciding on her artistic orientation, Liu Yu was drawn towards the overwhelming size and complex nature of Taipei Main Station. This station in particular has become a gathering spot for more than two hundred homeless people that have been expelled by the flaws in the social system. Liu Yu decided to visit these wandering peoples, get to know them, and develop her work around them.
