Whether for a portrait, a staged scene or any other approach, emotion and instinct will at first guide photographing alongside Vee Speers. The course will focus on the basics: interacting, choosing a distance and taking light into account. The first step will be to allow a sensibility and a positioning show through and lay the groundwork for an idea and a desire to develop. Ms. Speers will help each participant complete a personal project by experimenting: keeping what works, deciding what’s missing and moving on past the previous day’s successes and failures.

The goals will be to determine what characterizes each participant’s photographic identity and to become more aware of what to look for during shoots as well as what to keep during editing sessions. These choices, coherent in both form and substance, will give shape to a personal photographic language.

Avoiding technical aspects as much as possible, the approach will focus on what makes sense in the photograph and how viewers interact with what they see. It will be a matter of influences, looking, ways of being and trusting one’s instincts.

Sharing points of view, conviviality, self-confidence and the enjoyment of playing with photography will be an important part of each day.
