Accompanied daily by Diana Lui, the participants will work particularly on the body, the portrait (or self-portrait) and a certain representation of nature, whether wild, domesticated, luxuriant or reborn.
In order to carry out a personal realization, the shooting sessions will take place in vast spaces, characterized by the presence of a nature with multiple forms. A new place will be explored every day with the participation of models during some sessions.
In Arles, Camargue, and around, the goal is to weave a personal narrative, suggesting what these spaces tell us, the interactions they create with others and with oneself.
The editing sessions, the exchange of points of view, the trust, the confidences sometimes, will be part of daily meetings conducive to the overcoming of his own photographic practice.
DIANA LUI
Diana Lui is an artist and photographer born in Malaysia. She was at an early age initiated by her family in the arts in its most diverse forms: painting, drawing, dance, music... She was trained in photography in the United States and has been working in Europe for the last 25 years. Diana’s work focuses on issues of identity and origins. During her formal education and her first initial projects, she was inspired by both August Sander and Diane Arbus. As a result, most of her photographs are taken with the view camera, and in black and white. Her research is expressed through portraits of her subjects and their intimate environment.
Diana has exhibited her photographs and artistic projects on different continents, in America (United States, Mexico, Venezuela), in Asia (China, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia), in Europe (Belgium, Germany, Italy, Estonia, Slovenia, England, France) and Morocco. Most of these exhibitions have resulted in publications and editions, recently Les Etoiles de Diana was published as part of the art and science residence program Résidence 1+2 in Toulouse in 2016.
Diana Lui’s artistic work is present in many collections (museums, institutions, private collections ...) such as the Bibliothèque Nationale de France in Paris, the Guangdong Museum of Art in China, the Museo Bellas Artes in Venezuela, Musée de la Photographie de Charleroi, University California of Los Angeles…
Over time, Diana's work has been recognised and honoured by various distinctions, scholarships and residencies. These include: In France, the 20th Bourse duTalent, the Kodak Critics Award and finalist for the Fondation HSBC pour la Photographie; Residency at the Planches Contact Festival in Deauville ; in Belgium, the Prix National de la Photographie Ouverte of the Musée de la Photographie in Charleroi.
