This comprehensive course will help participants develop a sharper eye by working on personal projects and discussing the photographers, books and exhibitions on display in Arles this summer. Based largely on precise, daily editing sessions, Jean-Christophe Béchet will guide them in probing what makes their visions unique.
Locating and analyzing tangible elements will help them become detached from their own images in order to “see through others’ eyes”. They will express their intentions for the coming shots, choose the distance, make aesthetic choices, identify possible technical improvements and create relationships between the photographs. Sometimes, they will accidently stumble upon new avenues to explore.
The sessions will take place in Arles or Camargue, taking the aesthetics of the idea of “territory” into account. Participants will be guided by prior discussions and could be supplemented by focusing more specifically on technical aspects in order to achieve better results from the camera, considered a tool for creation here. At the end of the course they will present a coherent, homogeneous series at an exhibition that will be considered one of its goals. The focus will be more on the selection process, arrangement and destination than on processing files. The course aims to be friendly as well as educational. JEAN-CHRISTOPHE BÉCHET
