The exhibition devoted this year to Marin Karmitz’s collection gives Galerie VU’ the opportunity to extend its special relationship with the collector. This close bond underscores the role that galleries play in the field of photography. A fit is created between their shared commitments and discoveries. The collector’s approach and desires often merge with the gallery’s missions and passions: discovering, promoting discovery, learning and sharing... Also party to this encounter informed by enjoyment, desire and risk-taking are several stakeholders who at some time, in their own ways, have all been go-betweens, sometimes travelling off the beaten track... The Galerie is a window that enables the collector, and the collected image, to conquer a territory in the infinite space of the eye. Because appropriating the gaze of others or possessing an object in its materiality are not superficial undertakings, the Galerie has become the preferred space for mediation between artist and collector.
