Edition 2010

No scoop, 60 years of Télérama covers

Sixty years of a weekly publication; that’s more than 3,000 covers, more than 3,000 tangible signs of the appearance and disappearance of phenomena, people, cultural objects... some of which, after their hour of glory, have now fallen into oblivion, and others which continue to touch us. These covers are ephemeral images whose destiny is, perhaps, to line the bottom of the wastebasket, but they nonetheless humbly pay witness to the efforts of a team of people all animated by the same love of the arts and culture; all possessing the same fierce spirit of independence, irreverence and liberty; all ‘amateurs’ in the true sense of the word, but always filled with the same genuine sincerity. Presented as a testimonial of Télérama’s dedication, these covers also retrace sixty years of life in French culture and society, expressed by the very means of representation that, in themselves, speak volumes about their era: photography, of course, but also illustration and typography.
The covers are an invitation to travel back in time, accompanied by those who succeeded in pulling together a weekly magazine that used to be slipped under the missal after church but now has found a firm place in our landscape. And throughout these years, Télérama has never ceased to search for its own graphic heritage.
