LE PUY-SAINTE-RÉPARADE
Journeys with Warhol
Andy Warhol’s photographs constitute the life blood of his entire oeuvre.
Photo-making was an important aspect of the artist’s life from the time of his childhood, when he had a dark room in the basement of his parents’ home.
As an adult, Warhol carried a camera with him as he moved through New York’s social scene, often referring to his camera as ‘his date.’ Warhol not only used the camera to document his social life and travels, he also relied on it as a tool to create nearly all his works with other media.
What fascinated him most was capturing images of everyday objects such as toilets, telephones, chairs, room service trays, or chandeliers in hotel lobbies, for example.
Journeys with Warhol [Voyages avec Warhol] presents a series of various images, from the banal to the celebrity-infused, from the fetishistic to the simply beautiful. Understanding Warhol requires the viewer to dive into his world, his mind, his eye, and his point of view. It is a journey across the artist’s life, his passions, and his predilections.
