Throughout 2004 I went to Bobigny, just outside Paris to meet young people from a range of local housing estates. I suggested to each of them that I should take their portrait in front of where they lived. I was also very interested in photographing Bobigny itself: its streets, paving, tower blocks, parks, urban layout and in particular the lobbies of the highrise buildings. While taking my pictures I met Geoffrey Sorin, who lives on one of the estates. He showed me some little videos he had made with his mobile phone and I brought up the idea of doing a montage to show along with my photos at the Rencontres d'Arles in 2005. The exhibition comprises portraits of young people, pictures of housing estates and building lobbies, and mobile phone videos.
