Hripsime Visser (1954) studied art history at the University Leiden. Her MA in contemporary art history, focused on the history of photography.
She worked as lecturer of art history, academic assistant at the History of photography department (University Leiden), was a staff member of Perspektief foundation for photography in Rotterdam (NL) as such also member of the editorial board of Perspektief magazine for photography (1985-1990).
Between 1990 and 2021 Visser was curator of photography at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and was responsible for the institution’s photography collection.

Visser published widely in Dutch and international catalogues and magazines and had various (international) organisational, editorial and educational responsibilities.
Since 2021 Hripsimé Visser is working as an independent researcher and curator.
She contributed to the retrospective book Archive/the work of Bertien van Manen (Fw Books, 2020), is currently working on a retrospective of Diana Blok in the COBRA Museum, Amsterdam and on an installation of Kevin Osepa and Hannes Wallrafen for CBK art centre in Amsterdam.
Her current focus is on young artists and debates around politics, history and identity.
