Marta GILI

Marta Gili was born in Barcelona in 1957.
Holder of degrees in psychology and education science from the University of Barcelona, Marta Gili became interested in photography after beginning to use the medium in her clinical work. From 1983-88 she was on the organising committee for the Primavera Fotográfica festival in Barcelona. Since 1992 she has been in charge of the photography and visual arts department at the Caixa Foundation. Between 1994-97 she was a member of the purchasing committee of the Ministry of Culture's National Contemporary Art Collection in France, and she was artistic director for the 2002 and 2003 September Spring festivals in Toulouse. Among the numerous monographic exhibitions she has curated are those by Helen Chadwick, Tracey Moffat, Miguel Rio Branco, Aernout Mik, Christer Strömholm, Richard Avedon, Gillian Wearing and Doug Aitken. Her thematic exhibitions include Imagen Fragil, Cartógrafos y Aventureros and Ficciones Documentales.
