Jos Houweling came of age during the artistic ferment of the 1970s. From 1974 to 2010 he was first professor, then director of the Sandberg Instituut, the advanced studies programme of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie. In 1975 he published 700 Centenboek, a photo series on Amsterdam, followed by two more photo books. From 1997 to 1984 he was a radio ‘art ombudsman’, answering audience questions on art. He founded the Not the Art Pie alternative art fair for young artists. His The One Minutes video series has been seen in the Netherlands, China, Africa, Russia, and the US. He is currently exploring television, cinema, and combining animation with photos and texts.
