Julius Koller was a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava. He began his career in Slovakia in the 1960s. In performances, photography, and graphic works, he combatted the cultural isolation that the Soviet Union imposed. Begun in the 1970s, his project U.F.O. was shown in part at the 2003 Venice Biennale.
