Jacques-André Boiffard

Born 1902, Epernon, France. Died 1961, Paris, France.
According to André Breton, Jacques-André Boiffard dropped out of medical school to join the surrealists. He became Man Ray’s assistant starting in 1926, preferring photography to writing. He collaborated with Georges Bataille for the review Documents, starting in 1929. He would produce some of the most emblematic images of the surrealist movement (Le Gros Orteil).
