Born in 1951 in Arles, France.


Philosopher and writer Jean-Paul Curnier has authored essays and many articles on current affairs, imagery, art and the media; and sits on the editorial committee of the journal Lignes.

He was a lecturer and researcher at the University of Provence, a cultural development adviser to the Minister of Culture and to the French delegation at UNESCO, an artistic adviser on the Grande Halle venue at La Villette cultural and leisure complex in Paris; and then a teacher at art schools in Caen and Aix-en-Provence and on Reunion Island. With Jean Baudrillard he co-directed the collection l’Ombre du zèbre published by Èditions Sens & Tonka. He created and now runs the Manifeste collection (Editions Lignes-Manifeste).

In parallel to his work as a writer, he lectures at many cultural and higher-education establishments. His main works include Peine perdue I, II and III, in 2002; à vif in 2006; and Montrer l’invisible (writings on imagery) in 2009.
