Edition 2006

Vincent DEBANNE

Born 1972, lives and works in Paris.

After studying in the film and audiovisual department at Lyon 2 University in 1993–95, Vincent Debanne graduated in 1999 from the National School of Photography in Arles. He has been a fulltime photographer since 2002, contributing to the young artists segment of the Forum de l'Image in Toulouse and winning the Voies Off Festival prize in Arles in 2004. Over this period he built up Strategic Places, a photographic look at the two places most symptomatic of a society's obsession with ever-faster circulation of people and goods: the business centre and the shopping complex. Strategic Places was presented at the Rencontres Photographiques in Niort and the Stimultania festival in Strasbourg. Station, his most recent series, is a logical continuation of his earlier work; but where he once kept the human figure at a distance, often sweeping it up into group movements, the new series moves in closer and makes emotion perceptible. These portraits allow him an insight into our age's "expectations" and with them he invents a contemporary narrative.

Vincent Debanne is represented by Galerie Hors-Sol, where he is showing La majorité silencieuse (replacements) in 2006.

Vincent Debanne presented his work at the Rencontres d'Arles in 2006, with his series Station, at the Atelier des Forges.
