Eric MUTEL
Born in France in 1973.
Lives and works between France and Scandinavia.

He studied visual arts at Paris-I university and photography at Ecole des Gobelins. Subsequently, in parallel to developing his work as a visual artist, he moved professionally towards live performance, and trained in a range of stage-related technical fields. Over the past decade or so, these various experiences have seen him travel to and live in Scandinavia, including several years in Helsinki, Finland.
In 2006, he finalised a new video-installation project based on photography at Fresnoy, Studio National des Arts Contemporains, in Tourcoing, France. He is currently working on a new project combining dance, video and new media, in conjunction with the Royal University College of Fine Arts in Stockholm, Sweden. In addition, he is continuing other personal projects and collaborations with other artists.
Although influenced by photography, he is essentially a visual artist. He blends other materials and media, and invites photography into other disciplines, and vice versa. This practice has yielded projects that combine, or are linked to, photography, installation, performance, dance, set design, environmental art and video.
The variations in his work tend towards projects that mix visual-art images and live events; he has recently become interested in using certain new media and new technologies.
Eric Mutel presented his work at the Rencontres d’Arles in 2007, nominated by Alain Fleischer for the Discovery Award: Eric Mutel at the Atelier de Maintenance.
