Marilyn MINTER

Born in 1948 in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Lives and works in New York.

Marilyn Minter received a bachelor’s degree in fine art from the University of Florida in 1970 and a master’s in fine art from Syracuse University in 1972. She has continually broken new ground in painting since her first solo exhibition at the Everson Museum, Syracuse, in 1975. She was featured in the 2006 Whitney Biennale and partnered with Creative Time to present three giant billboards of her photographs in New York that same year. Recent individual exhibitions include Salon 94, New York, Gavlak Projects and Baldwin Gallery in 2006. She had a solo exhibition at the San Francisco MoMA in 2005.

Her first monograph comes out this year with contributions by Johanna Burton, Mary Heilmann and Matthew Higgs and she will be featured in Parkett magazine with texts by Katy Siegel, Andrea Scott and Linda Nochlin.

Marilyn Minter presented her work at the Rencontres d’Arles in 2007, nominated by Bice Curiger for the Discovery Award: Marilyn Minter at the Atelier de Maintenance.
