André MÉRIAN

Born in 1955 in Brittany, France. Lives and works in Marseille, France.
André Mérian settled in Marseille in 1987, focusing on landscapes and the traces left by man. In 1995 he joined the Marseille-based association Sud, Image, Territoire (SITe), to take part in its group work on representing places and territories. In 2002, to conclude his project on seaside locations, he published Aux Bords de la fin.
He then began “The Statement”, a project on peripheral, urban and retail areas in Europe and the United States, which yielded The Statement, published in 2006.
In 2006 he did an artist's residency at the French Cultural Centre in Damascus, Syria. In 2008, he did a residency with the Gwin-Zegal association in Brittany, where he began a project on the landscapes of his native region. His various works on urban landscapes are regularly shown in solo and group exhibitions in France and beyond. He is represented in France by Les Douches – La Galerie, Paris; and abroad by the VanKranendonk gallery in The Hague, Netherlands.
