Augusto FERRARI

Born in 1871 in San Possidonio, Italy. Died in 1970 in Buenos Aires.
Augusto Ferrari was the father of the artist León Ferrari.

In keeping with his father’s wishes, Augusto César Ferrari studied architecture at the University of Genoa. In 1892, with his studies over and unfunded by his family, he settled in Turin, where he studied painting at the Accademia Albertina and attended classes in the ancient and modern styles at the city’s industrial museum. The archives of these institutions were destroyed during the First and Second World Wars. However, Ferrari’s name was found in the 1889–90 student register at the engineering faculty of the University of Genoa. From his time at the Industrial Museum of Turin, there is a watercolour with a note by Ferrari: ‘Project executed at the Industrial Museum of Turin in 1897’. The Accademia Albertina possesses a file of many documents (registrations, exams, prizes) for the period 1893–99. He created work in three disciplines—painting, architecture and photography—in Italy until 1914 and then from 1922–26; and in Argentina from 1914–22 and from 1926 until his death in 1970.

Augusto Ferrari's work was presented at the Rencontres d'Arles in 2010: Augusto Ferrari in the Cloître St Trophime.
